As I had mentioned in class, the company that I work for handles all the marketing for Audi of America and this year Audi is the exclusive automotive sponsor of Design Miami and Art Basel. This one week has been in the planning stages since early July and although it is a very stressful it is exciting nonetheless. I have had the privilege of helping to plan some exclusive events and really gotten a feel for the career field I am planning to enter. Last night was an exclusive press event held at the Florida Room with Ms. Grace Jones herself. As a child of the eighties I did not hear of her until we booked her for the show and all I have to say is WOW! She is a Jamaican-born singer, model, actress that has a unique style and performance vibe. She is a diva in her own right, but at the same time a person that carries a good vibe and seems fun to be around. I was granted the pleasure of working with her and her entourage directly. This event also gave me the opportunity to be within reaching distance from Kirsten Dunst, Mary-Kate Olsen, Marilyn Manson and Tom Brady. There was mention that Naomi Campbell, Macy Grey and Lenny Kravitz were also attending Grace Jones Audi Unplugged event, but unfortunately were not able to make it. It was an amazing night and an unforgettable experience. More and more I realize that this is what I was born to do.

I recently started watching Lipstick Jungle and was automcatically drawn to it. The television show is very similar to the much loved Sex & the City; however, I feel  it touches on more real-life situations other than simply relationships. The characters played by Brooke Shields (Wendy Healy) and Kim Raver (Nico Reilly) are exexcutives. Nico is an editor of the premium fashion magazine in NY. Lindsay Price (Victory Ford) plays an aspiring fashion designer. I feel as if I personally can relate to all three characters in some way. Brooks Shields manages to be a top executive in a otherwise male-dominated world and continues to be the mother that takes priority over work. Wendy recently lost her job as she forged her signature in order for her friend (ill with cancer) to be featured in what would have been his last film. Kim Raver is an editor with a strong personality. She does not let the fact that she is a woman come in between her success. Lindsasy Price is an aspiring fashion designer. My passion for fashion will hopefully one day lead me to New York City. Beginning in January, I start an internship with the PR firm in Miami- Tara, Ink. I feel like I am one step closer to fulfilling my dreams. As ironic as it shows, I enjoy viewing shows such a Lipstick Jungle because even though it is fiction is gives me hope to one day be in the position I have always wanted to be, both personally and professionally. Unfortunately, rumor has it that Lipstick Jungle will not be picked up for another season.

Environmental Outing # 5 (Furniture/ Art Gallery)

I recently started working for a marketing company that has its office in the Design District. I have never been there before, but had always heard that it was beautiful and although it was in a bit of a bad neighborhood it was definitely part of the project to beautify Downtown. My first day on the job I was amazed with what I saw. It was furniture showroom and after showroom of beautiful pieces of art. Mr. Craig Robinson is credited with making the Design District what it is today. He owns most of the buildings in the district and allows struggling artists to have showrooms rent free in exchange of a piece of their art. I personally had never really thought of furniture as a piece of art until I drove through the Design District. It is such a big deal that thousands of designers fly into Miami for Design Miami. DM is like a sister to Art Basel, which is held at the Miami Beach convention center. They are huge events in which artists from all over the world had show off and even sell some of their pieces. I have the opportunity to be right in the middle of the action this year as my company represents Audi and Audi is the automotive sponsor for both events.

Anyways in the same building as my office is this furniture showroom, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. For some reason this one showroom stuck out from the rest. As I “window shopped” I could only imagine being in the posititon financially in the future to afford such pieces for my own house. After a few days of walking past the entrance I decided to walk in. I spoke to the showroom manager and explained to her exactly who I was and what I needed to do. To my surprise not only was the furniture spectular but the employees were so nice. Good service is not found often. Walking through the showroom, there was not one piece that I did not like. So chic and clean. From bedroom furniture to living room pieces everything was amazing. Expensive not to mention. The one thing that especially stood out from the rest was a wall of lighting that simply said LOVE AT FIRST LIGHT! I thought that the words were used creatively, in a fun way to get the customers attention. Below are some pictures…..BTW, if none of you have ever gone to the Design District I suggest you go during Design Miami. It is a huge event that has brought out the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Pharell Williams and even Brad Pitt (he attended Art Basel Switzerland).

Photography just like music and art is another way of expression. The way that photographers can capture a person’s emotions or capture a piece of the past is amazing. Pictures bring laughter to many. It brings back memories that would have otherwise been forgotten because our daily lives consume us. I love sitting on the floor on a random afternoon (when there is nothing else to do) and going through old pictures is the best thing. You look at the picture and all the memories of that exact time come rushing back to you. While checking my hotmail account, I saw this article about how you can turn good pictures into even better ones. It gave amateur photographers 5 tips on what can make a picture breath-taking. Understanding how to capture the right moment can make the picture so much better.

1. Focus on your subject

2. Watch your exposure

3. Keep it level

4. Freeze the action

5. Forget the date stamp
